Abstract

Traveling waves solutions to a dynamic equation that frequently arises in the theory of ferroelectric smectic-C liquid crystals under the influence of an electric field were investigated. Possible time-dependent solutions were discussed in the context of minima and maxima of the electric energy density for these liquid crystals. Implicit solutions were determined for an approximation of the governing dynamic equation. Nondimensional control parameters characterizing the changes in the availability of equilibrium states with the increase in the magnitude of the field were also identified.
