Abstract

In recent times, the infiltration of technology has gradually shaped our lifestyles and work patterns. There has been a significant shift from traditional methods of service delivery to an information and communication technology-driven approach, compelling individuals and governments to incorporate technology into their lives, policies, and service provision. This chapter aims to examine the utilization of emerging technologies in transportation and urban planning to achieve smart cities. It also seeks to explore how leveraging emerging technology can enhance the transportation system and alleviate some of the inherent challenges faced in society. Additionally, this chapter highlights the transformation that the transportation sector has undergone due to the integration of new technologies. It recognizes that smart cities strive to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and livability, and one of the key means to accomplish this is through the adoption of technology and active citizen participation.
