Abstract

The world was formally introduced to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) in 2011, initially with minimal insights into its details. Since then, exploration, development, and synergy have led to a well-defined and understood concept of 4IR today. Despite implementation challenges, 4IR is a prevalent reality, encompassing the integration and application of advanced systems and various forms of automation. The chapters in this book provide substantial insights into 4IR and the current paradigm shift. This chapter aims to consolidate and conclude various aspects of 4IR while also introducing some foundational concepts of Society 5.0 or Industry 5.0. Emerging from the foundations of 4IR, there is a global shift towards prioritizing people over technology. Society 5.0 is being shaped by the demand for technology that benefits society, emphasizing the importance of technological advancements that enhance societal well-being. The authors provide insights into solutions that align with Society 5.0 and indicate future directions. Essentially, the focus shifts from integration, intelligence, and automation to creating an intuitive business.
