Abstract
This case study follows Thabile Dube, Research Manager at Johannesburg Business School (JBS), as she spearheads a groundbreaking initiative to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into traditional academic research processes. Set in South Africa and focused on contemporary challenges, the study addresses the limitations of traditional research methods, such as their inefficiency, difficulty handling larger datasets, and the inability to adapt to dynamic AI environments. Thabile aims to revolutionise the research landscape through AI-based tools with enhancing academic studies' speed, flexibility, and efficiency. This initiative is designed to benefit undergraduate and postgraduate students interested in the intersection of AI and research, offering insight into advanced techniques that automate tasks and streamline research processes. This innovative approach aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, that focuses on building resilient infrastructure, fostering innovation, and promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialisation. By improving research methodologies and contributing to knowledge sharing and technological advancement, the initiative strengthens South Africa's academic capabilities in research.
