Abstract
The article discusses the nature of tourist destinations and the production of socio-spatial representations in the context of tourism. The aim is to conceptualize the tourist destination as a social construct and to examine more closely certain aspects of the ethnic landscape of Finnish Lapland brought out by the tourism industry. The focus is on representations of the Sami and their culture, especially Sami women as displayed in the discourses of tourism.
