Abstract

This article describes the effect of POSS loading on the thermal and rheological properties of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrix. PMMA nanocomposites with various POSS loadings of 5 to 25 wt%, were prepared via melt-mixing of POSS and PMMA in a twin-screw batch-mixer at 180 °C. The thermal properties of pure PMMA and its nanocomposites were studied using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). Results showed a single glass transition for all investigated samples and a decrease in glass transition temperature of PMMA matrix with increasing in POSS loading was observed. Dynamic mechanical analysis results supported the DSC observations. The rheological studies in molten-state showed a gel-like character for all the investigated samples.
