The significance of Anti-apartheid literature in a Post-Apartheid society

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

In this paper I will explore the teaching of Anti-apartheid literature (emphasising poetry)in a Post-Apartheid community. In South Africa today, fourteen years after the demise of Apartheid as policy, and the embracing of democratic values and institutions, there is value in teaching Anti-apartheid literature. Principally there is significance in negotiating with texts from the past, in order to explore values and beliefs. Furthermore, it is important to consider the human expressions of the apartheid era, in order to articulate a sense of issues that inform our understanding of the current social climate in South Africa.
