Abstract
The present paper utilises the "Nordic Model" for assessing the impact of tourism on a regional economy, which enables the effects of incomes from tourism and the increased employment opportunities to be assessed on different spatial scales. An illustrative example of the use of the model is taken from an evaluation of the effects on the economy of the municipality of Salla in eastern Lapland, where direct incomes from tourism in 1999 were approximately FIM 32 million (5,4 million Euro) and it provided employment for 79 persons.
