Abstract

The impact of human capital development on evolution procedure on whichever country or state is fundamental, which is the most valuable resource for poverty alleviation. In this study, we aimed at examining the nexus between human capital development and economic advancement in Nigeria. We explored data from 1980 to 2016 from CBN time series data. This study did extensive review on empirical studies, which unveils the elongated relationship between government disbursement on health sector, educational sector and economic growth. Ordinary least square, Trend analysis and the Johansen cointegration were you in the analysis of data. The independent variables: total fixed capital formation, secondary and tertiary enrolment rate, and education expenditure and health appear with a priori expectations with statistical significance (except government expenditure on primary enrolment level and education). The discoveries in this survey pose a great threat on education and health policies. Hence, urgent attention needs to be channeled towards accelerating growth process and liberate Nigeria's human capital from the phase of destitution, it is recommended that the government expressly swing into action on progressive policies that supports human capital development with key interests in education and health.
