Abstract

In this paper, we illustrate the importance of applications' adaptability and QoS awareness in mobile wireless networks. We utilize a "Mobile QoS Adaptation" strategy aiming to deal with the inconsistencies arising from mobility events in a wireless mobile environment The performance of the specific adaptation strategy is evaluated through simulations under different traffic environments in a wireless network based on 3GPP's UMTS structure. As a result, we show that the performance of a network can be improved when adaptive applications are used by both mobile and fixed hosts.
