Abstract

A detailed study of the species of Peucedanum occurring within the Cape Floristic Region of South Africa permitted the identity of the type of Bubon gummiferum L. (≡ Peucedanum gummiferum (L.) Wijnands), to be re-assessed. The type is a plate in Commelin, Horti Medici Amstelodamensis Rariorum Plantarum (1701) that closely matches, in our opinion, the species currently known as P. hypoleucum (Meisn.) Drude. Peucedanum gummiferum is therefore the correct name for this taxon.
