Abstract
Since 1960 there, has emerged a major refugee problem in Southern Africa. The essential causes of the region's rapidly expanding refugee population are rooted in the struggles for dccolonization and African majority rule, the occurrence of post-independence internal conflicts and civil strife and the progressive Implementation of apartheid policies in both South Africa and Namibia. Against this background, the changing patterns of origins, destinations and flows of international refugees in Southern Africa between 1965 and 1979 form the focus of analysis.
