Abstract
Development finance is an issue little researched by geographers. In this paper an analysis is undertaken of the evolution, development practice and spatial petterns of financing between 1948 and 1991 of the Commonwealth Development Corporation (formerly the Colonial Development Corporation), a British development agency. Against a background of the CDC’s international operations, an investigation is conducted into the geography of the organization’s activities in Africa. Historical analysis points to a complex of statutory arrangements, economic and political considerations that shape geographies of development finance.
