Abstract

This paper presents the impact of backup power supply when evaluating distribution system reliability worth/cost indices. This is illustrated through a simple radial system network consisting of four load points. Average values for both the load and customer interruption cost models are used in the analysis. The impact of different system configurations on reliability worth/cost indices is investigated. A Matlab software based program was used to obtain the predicted values of the required indices. This program applies Monte Carlo simulation method. The failure and restoration times are considered to be exponentially distributed. The results show that system modification and investments can improve the reliability cost/worth of a distribution system network.
