Abstract

Socialist policy aims to foster collective living in villages and to facilitate provision of government assistance by concentrating the population. At the heart of each communal village is a state farm or agricultural cooperative, and guidelines advise on the layout and organisation of settlements. Partly for historical reasons there is great spatial variation in implementing the policy, but development of communal villages is an important step towards creating a socialist society. -D.G.Price
