Abstract
Thin film of zinc sulphide (ZnS) grown on glass substrates with 0.1 M zinc chloride (ZnCl2), 0.1 M thiourea (SC(NH2)2) with 0.01 M glycine as the complexant is here presented. Deposition was at 300–400 °C by the chemical spray pyrolysis (CSP) method. The film studies were done with X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical spectrophotometry for structures, morphology and optical properties respectively. In the field of view, there is moderately high transmission of 61.41–79.53% in the film. The refractive index values are between 1.58 and 2.37. The band gap energy differed between 3.36 and 3.07 eV. Surface morphology is smooth and like flowers. The films have hexagonal structure. Crystalline size was between 7.00 and 8.00 nm. Raman spectroscopy revealed third order 3LO-Raman phonons. FTIR showed bonds in films, while photoluminescence (PL) studies exhibited emissions which are band edge. The ZnS thin film is hydrophilic in nature.
