Abstract

A synthesis for (E)-4-(3‘ -formyl-2’ -butenyl)- indole, which essentially entails the “carboxolytic cleavage” of 5-amino-1, 4-dihydronaphthalene with N-cyclohexyl-N-propenyl-nitrosonium ion, is described.
