Abstract

Consideration is given to the evaluation of several simple mathematical models which represent magnetic saturation in a synchronous machine. Particular attention is paid to quadrature axis saturation in conjunction with an automatic voltage regulator and either a slow electro-magnetic exciter or a fast thyristor exciter. Calculated transient response results are compared in order to evaluate both the accuracy and computational economy of each saturation model.
