Abstract
The compounds GdBa2(Cu1-xFex)3O7+z have been prepared to study the effect of partial replacement of Cu by Fe on the structure, superconductivity and magnetic behavior of this oxide system. A change from orthorhombic to tetragonal structure takes place with increasing x. The superconducting transition temperature, Tc, decreases as the Fe concentration increases. All the compounds exhibit Curie-Weiss behavior in their magnetic susceptibility which is dominated by the paramagnetism of the Gd3+ ion.
