Abstract

Compounds of the type YbTGa (T = Cu, Pd and Pt) have been synthesized. Magnetic susceptibility (χ) measurements reveal a maximum in χ-T at a temperature of about 200 K in YbCuGa, typical of the Yb containing mixed-valent systems. The Yb ions appear to be in a mixed valent state in YbPdGa also but in a divalent or nearly divalent state in YbPtGa.
