Abstract
In this letter, we first report on the synthesis of mesoporous α-GaOOH by a solvothermal process. Mesoporous α-GaOOH was synthesized using gallium nitrate in the presence of sodium acetate and ethanol as a solvent at 200 C for 10 h. The synthesized α-GaOOH was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and nitrogen adsorption analysis. The XRD results showed the formation of well crystallized orthorhombic α-GaOOH. The TEM results showed the formation of semi-nanosphere like morphology. The nitrogen adsorption analysis showed that synthesized α-GaOOH has a very high surface area of 193 m2/g with a narrow pore size distribution of 2.5 nm. The authors propose a plausible mechanism for the formation of α-GaOOH semi-nanospheres.
