Abstract

Petrography, a specialized division of petrology, is an established analytical tool in coal and related industries. This technique is far simpler than SEM, can provide detailed information about the particles under consideration, and does not require sample coating. With these features, petrography may find application in the future for analyzing materials such as carbon fiber and graphite in composite manufacture.
