Abstract

In this paper is introduced antenna systems onboard spacecraft for Inmarsat Aeronautical and other Mobile Satellite System (MSS), such as communications, tracking, monitoring and logistics solutions between mobile units and Gateways or Ground Earth Stations (GES) accomplished via Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) Satellite Constellation. Inmarsat GEO MSS is employing advanced technology and technique to deliver Voice, Data and Video (VDV) for all mobile applications around the world, excluding Polar Areas. The Inmarsat organization got sufficient funding to implement at first solutions for Maritime applications and in the next stage to develop additional service such as Land (Road and Rail) and finally for Aeronautical applications. Inmarsat team surpassed all problems and challenges getting attribute of only one global mobile satellite operator with professional attribute. With respect to improvements of Space Segment and service in particular, antenna systems onboard Inmarsat spacecraft is discussed. The characteristics of modem Spacecraft antenna and Link Performance with Monobeam and Multibeam Antenna Coverage are introduced. At this point, the possible basic types of antenna installed onboard spacecraft for MSS are presented.
