Abstract

Sri Sathya Sai Mitra (popularly known as Sai Mitra) is the rooftop solar energy generation project executed by the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust. The Sai Mitra project has spanned multiple phases and is a wonderful example that integrates technology and human values in a symbiotic relationship. The project has been commended by the United Nations as a good practice in achieving sustainable developmental goals (SDGs). This case study traces the different phases through which the project was executed, the challenges faced, and the outcomes achieved. The case presents useful insights for engineers, community development practitioners, and institutions seeking practical methods to implement sustainable energy in communities.
