Role of Soft Computing in Industry 4.0 and 5.0

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Industrial revolution has brought a change from agricultural and handicraft economy to industrial and machine manufacturing. Therefore there are first, second, third, fourth and fifth industrial revolutions and they are based on mechanization, electricity, automation, networking and personalization respectively. Further, soft computing was used in Industry 4.0 and 5.0. It works on the basis of genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic, machine learning, evolutionary computation and artificial neural networks. Soft computing is advantageous because there are numerous plants which are nonlinear and time-variant in nature and cannot be controlled easily while following the traditional methods. Therefore, soft computing plays a significant role. However, in this book chapter, soft computing has been described along with its role in Industry 4.0 and 5.0. Further industrial core values have been described along with the comparison between Industry 4.0 and 5.0 based on different parameters, for example, time, role of human, technology, communication and production speed.
