Abstract
The CYP450 gene family is critical in promoting plant resistance to stress and pests. In recent decades, they have become the focus of biocatalysis due to their exceptional metabolic diversity. This chapter explores the evolutionary trends in cytochrome P450 genes in plants and highlights its structural and functional diversity as well as its impact on plant defense mechanisms and environmental adaptation. The rapid rise in structural and functional studies has been experienced in recent times, this is also accompanied by novel utilization of several enzymes in biotechnological research. This review abridges current evolutionary developments in CYP study and further explores their functional and structural properties in plants. The dawn of robust insights into genome-structure-function-omic analysis and modern biology is crucial to overcoming challenges and limitations and undoubtedly paves the way for more diverse substantial applications.
