Abstract

In 2015, the United Nations launched 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) with the SDG 7 seeking to address the challenges of an increased energy demand by ensuring the total electrification for the world by 2030. For countries in Africa who face problems of a wide energy access deficit, it is imperative that renewable energy sources are included in the energy generation mix in line with the sustainable objectives. To achieve this goal, energy modelling would play a pivotal role in accessing and forecasting the required energy mixes under different policy climates to avoid wastages. This study was therefore a review of Nigeria's current energy climates, the potentials of renewable energy penetration and different energy adoptable models.
