Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

In this chapter, Associate Professor Bruce Friesen PhD, Chair of Soci-ology at the University of Tampa, Florida, shares his experiences of Hurricane Milton in October 2024 using positive autoethnography (PosAE). Friesen frames this gripping PosAE in nine “stages”: Denial, Resignation, Preparations, Acts of Desperation, The Hit, The Next Day, Aftermath, Relief, and Lessons Learned. As readers, we accompany Bruce in his experiences of positive and negative emotions, and ultimately of gratitude and learning during and following the second most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Gulf of Mexico. An introduction from Freda and Claude precedes this PosAE, and it is followed by Concluding thoughts from Freda.
