Abstract

This study examines the various types of solar cell deposition techniques to select the optimum type best fitted for the global south. The global south is a region that has struggled with development caused by epileptic power supply. This is despite the abundance of sunlight that can be used for solar energy. The cost of importing some of this solar equipment has hindered the even spread of the deployment of solar energy. Most countries in the global north have crashed the cost of solar energy because of massive research in solar cells and related solar energy technology in those countries and regions. The global south struggles because most solar cell deposition equipment is expensive and requires an uninterrupted power supply. This has hindered countries in Asia, Africa, and Oceania from not being able to compete in solar cell research as they have epileptic power supply and limited research funds. On this premise, this study reviews the solar cell deposition techniques to recommend the possible techniques that can be used in the global south based on affordability, low power consumption, and sustainability as the major criteria.
