Abstract

Dicarbonyl(η5–cyclopentadienyl)iron(II)—complexes of 2,3—dihydrofuran and 3,4—dihydro—2H—pyran rapidly react with carbanionic nucleophiles. The adducts of certain nucleophiles, such as the anion of diethyl malonate, readily isomerise to ring opened products. Ligand exchange reactions and polymerisation compete with the nucleophilic addition reactions of neutral nucleophiles such as enol ethers and indole.
