Abstract
South Africa is one of the key sites of struggle against exploitative climate-related processes caused by the country's highest-profile Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project. A project that converts the methane-to-electricity at a cancerous dump sited across the Bisasar Road landfill by a racist eThekwini municipality during apartheid-era. The Durban environmentalist Sajida Khan lost her life battling for four years to close an apartheid-era dumpsite of which sickened many people including herself. As a result to the Khan's fighting, Durban's Clare State community force the municipality to withdraw an application to the World Bank for carbon trading finance including methane extraction from the road. Attributed to Khan, the justice finally closed the apartheid-era dumpsite. Good jobs and bursaries will be given to the dump's neighbors, especially in the Kennedy Road community and among others.
