Abstract
This chapter summarizes the key drivers for managing PSWs from the economic, environmental and social perspectives. Drivers such as economic incentives, household education, personal behavior, environmental awareness, climate change and global warming are discussed. The chapter indicates that producer and consumer responsibility are key drivers in managing wastes. Identification of the drivers is not enough to manage waste from the managers, engineers and policy makers’ perspective. Therefore, an integrated PSWs management system that integrates the drivers and technologies is proposed. The system provides a platform for managers, engineers and policy makers to understand how the drivers and technologies can be affected at household, community and institutional levels.
