Optimal Placement and Sizing of Distributed Generation in a Distribution System Using Heap Based Optimizer

Abstract

Distributed generation (DG) can help reduce the constant occurrence of power outages and voltage instability in the power system caused by an increase in load demands. This research proposes the Heap Based Optimizer (HBO), a metaheuristic optimization technique, to assess the best placements and sizes of numerous Distributed Generations (DGs) on radial distribution networks. The proposed HBO uses heap data structures and draws inspiration from organizational hierarchies. The IEEE 33-bus radial distribution network is used to verify HBO's efficacy. The suggested HBO algorithm is contrasted with additional traditional optimization methods. The results demonstrate that HBO performed better than traditional approaches in terms of decreasing power loss, system's voltage stability index improvement and improving the overall voltage profile.
