Abstract

Microgrids have become a preferred source of energy for remote locations due to their relative reliability and minimal operational cost. In this work, the optimal operational dispatch of an islanded microgrid consisting of a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) generator and PV generator is considered. The power sources must satisfy the load and heat demand whilst simultaneously minimizing the daily operational cost and respecting the system operational limits. A practical case study is used to verify the mathematical formulations and obtained results show that the addition of the solar PV provides much needed operational cost reduction.
