Abstract

In this chapter we present on line tuning of PID controller through bio-mimicry of bacteria foraging. Genetic Algorithm is currently a standard for optimization. Biomimicry is a new technique proposed for optimization by Kevin M. Passino of Ohio State University, Ohio. A comparison of famous Genetic Algorithm with bio-mimicry of bacteria foraging has been made. This comparison is done by comparing their application to the problem of tuning a PID controller. In this chapter we observe that bio-mimicry is equally applicable to the problem of control system design (here tuning PID controller). The results of bio-mimicry algorithm are better than to that of genetic algorithm.
