Abstract

The problem with extrapolation boundary conditions at artificial outflow boundaries is investigated. A linear semi-discrete model problem describing the error introduced by the artificial boundary is analyzed. The effect of large gradients in the basic flow field is included in the model problem and appropriate error bounds are derived.
