Abstract

It has been demonstrated from previous studies that it is possible to have the internal eaves connection of cold-formed steel rafters, which are connected to the column through a hot-rolled steel gusset plate. This connection configuration eliminates the possibility of unbalanced column moments at the joint, thus allowing for the column to be designed for axial loads only. A numerical model for this connection configuration has been developed in this study and this has been tested against experimental data. The model gives good agreement with regards to the mode and location of the failure, moment-rotation and moment-curvature response of the tested frames. The numerical model provides an opportunity for better understanding of the behaviour of this connection configuration, which could facilitate further development of connecting systems for internal eaves of double-bay cold-formed steel portal frames.
