Abstract

The previous chapter gave a brief overview of the common types of noise in power line communication (PLC) systems, which were categorized into background noise, narrowband interference and impulsive noise. However, according to the literature, impulsive noise is the most challenging and detrimental noise in PLC systems. Impulsive noise affects PLC systems in several ways, which include signal distortion, reduced data throughput, increased bit error rate (BER) and reliability issues. Therefore, in this chapter, we present various techniques tailored specifically to counteract the effects of impulsive noise in PLC systems. The aim is to enhance the reliability and efficiency of PLC systems in noise-prone environments.
