Abstract

A new technique of designing ternary line codes is presented. Spectral shaping and distance-preserving mappings techniques are combined to design codes with spectral nulls and error correction capabilities. The resultant ternary line codes use state-machine structure of the convolutional codes and thus have certain advantages compared to other published line codes.
