Abstract
The plastic (H) properties, elastic (E) properties, the strain-to-break parameter (H/Er) and the resistance to plastic deformation parameter (H3/Er2) of nano-TiN dispersed duplex stainless steel (DSS) were investigated using nanoindentation technique. The mechanical properties improved considerably as the TiN increases, resulting from grain boundary refinements and better dispersion strengthening mechanisms. The hardness and elastic modulus were observed to be in the range of 3.7- 6.5 GPa and 183.5- 234.5 GPa on the grains, respectively; whereas on the grain boundary hardness and elastic modulus ranged from 8.7-25.8GPa and 200.1-305.1GPa, respectively. Furthermore, the high H/Er and H3/Er2 values were obtained suggesting good wear resistance of the composites.
