Abstract

In the era of advancing technology, where the circular economy is in the limelight, bio-based nanocomposites are of great interest. Cellulosic nanomaterials, with their characteristic properties like good mechanical and thermal properties, lightweight, and high aspect ratio, can be considered a prime choice as potential filler for polymers. The reinforcing filler requirement in elastomers—a significant class of polymeric material with a unique combination of strength and flexibility—can be met by cellulose in nanoform—nanocellulose. With the high possibility of tailoring the functionality of nanocellulose, the properties of elastomer nanocomposites can be tuned according to the performance requirement. Considering this, the present chapter gives an overview of the history and recent developments in elastomeric nanocellulose composites.
