Abstract

Welding simulation is done for the ultimate aim of optimizing the welding process in other to achieve the performance target and quality of the welded joint. In the case of the welding of structures that involve steels and other alloys. The study focused on the review on existing studies on modeling and simulation of welding parameters used in pipe welding applications. First a general review of different welding methods and parameter selection was carried out and their effect on the weld quality and performance of welded joint during application was carried out. Furthermore, parameters such as welding speed, time and temperature were critically studied. Findings from various reviewed studies revealed that interpass temperature is very important in the determination of weld quality, less residual stress at the welded joint as well as microstructural behavior of the welded joint. Thus, modelling and numerical simulation helps in understanding the various heat input theoretically for any material and their adverse effects on the welded joint of pipes. Hence, making it easy to know the right parameter selection in real-life welding applications. Thus, modelling and simulation of welding parameters have proven to be a useful tool for estimation of quality of welding applications.
