Microstrip Antenna Array with Tilted Rectangular Ring Resonator Frequency Selective Surface for Gain and Bandwidth Enhancement

Abstract

This paper presents a Circular Ring with a tilt rectangular resonator frequency selective surface (FSS) for gain and bandwidth enhancement of the Ku band satellite communication antenna. A novel of tilt rectangular with circular ring element was introduced to inspire the degree of liberality in the structure with the increase in the length and rectangular tilt at 45degree to change the band stop. The dielectric material is incorporated concurrently. In increasing the bandwidth partial ground plane method is used, the gain increased with the loop FSS from the antenna gain of 3.74dB to 6.25dB at 12GHz, with Directivity from 4.09dBi to 6.62dBi and at 18GHz the gain increase from 3.60 to 5.86 and the directivity from 3.78 to 6.63 respectively. Simulation and analysis results were done with 3D Electromagnetic field simulation software (CST) microwaves studio time domain solver and validated with a frequency-domain solver. It is seen that there was great improvement more in the proposed method which was able to cover interesting operating frequency, the frequency selective surface was designed to operate at ku-band frequency rand of 12GHz to 18GHz fixed satellite communication.
