Abstract

The recent study of PrNi shows a soft mode associated with the ferromagnetic transition (TC∼21 K). The observed magnetic modes are qualitatively described by the model of the crystal field with the exchange term within the framework of mean-field random phase approximation. To approve the model consideration and obtain a full set of excitation modes the inelastic neutron scattering measurements of PrNi single- and polycrystal has been performed at T=23 K. The "acoustic" mode related to level with "higher" energy in crystal field has been observed for the first time. The character of its dispersion allows to conclude that "acoustic" mode connected with "lower" energy level is involved in the magnetic ordering.
