Abstract

NdAuGa has been studied by structural, magnetic, magnetocaloric and heat capacity measurements. The compound crystallizes with the CeCu2- type orthorhombic crystal structure (space group Imma). It orders antiferromagnetically at TN = 8.9 K, and then undergoes a spin-reorientation transition at Tt = 3.6 K. Close to TN, the isothermal magnetic entropy attains 3.1 J/(kg K) for the field change of 5 T, which is a fairly small value in relation the magnitude observed for similar intermetallics.
