Abstract

Jobs in all types of occupations and organizations can be characterized by job demands and resources. Whereas job demands cost effort and considerable energy, job resources have motivating potential. It is the combination of various job demands and resources that influences well-being and job performance. This entry describes the basics of Job Demands–Resources theory. It delineates how employees are influenced by the design of their job and can also proactively redesign and optimize their own job by using job crafting.
