Abstract

This article studies the effect of process parameters on the mechanical properties and corrosion behaviour of friction stir processed aluminium alloy. The parameters of friction stir processing (FSP) for 1100 Al alloys were studied at two different tool rotational speeds (600 and 1200 rpm) and two different passes (i.e., 1 and 3 passes). The study shows that 3-passes sample at 1200 rpm exhibit the least corrosion rate which is about 25% compared to the base material, while the tensile strength of the processed sample increased by 14%.
