Abstract

This chapter introduces the conflict in Cabo Delgado, outlining some recent developments and its international implications. The chapter examines the importance and relevance of the book and its contribution to understanding and highlighting key issues regarding the conflict, particularly from the perspective of international humanitarian law and regional security. It introduces the conflict in Northern Mozambique, examining its origins as well as international responses to date. The chapter then outlines specific parameters and perspectives the book aims to cover, which include: the conflict and its causes, regional security dimensions, international humanitarian law perspectives, the regional and international responses to the conflict, and its implications for other areas of international law.
