Abstract

In today’s technologically driven world, the integration of technology has become an essential requirement for enhancing organizational productivity, fostering industrial development, promoting economic growth, expanding human development capacity, and improving livelihoods. Within this context, traffic management systems play a vital role in the smart city concept and sustainable planning efforts. As urban populations and mobility continue to surge in major cities worldwide, traffic congestion has emerged as a significant transportation challenge. To address this issue and aid authorities in effective planning, this chapter proposes the implementation of a smart traffic management system utilizing the Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data. The convergence of IoT and Big Data solutions has been instrumental in driving the global adoption of intelligent transportation systems. This chapter explores the potential applications of Big Data and IoT in traffic management, recognizing their ability to not only tackle complex transportation safety issues but also to stay ahead of emerging trends and technologies. By harnessing the power of Big Data and IoT, transportation safety and management can be significantly enhanced, paving the way for further advancements in this field.
