Abstract

This book chapter delves into the synergistic integration of circular economy and sustainability principles within the context of water remediation applications. It commences with an overview of the circular economy concept, highlighting its potential to effectively address pressing environmental concerns such as resource scarcity, waste generation, and the global climate crisis. The significance of formulating a comprehensive sustainability strategy that encompasses economic, environmental, and societal dimensions is thoroughly examined. By illustrating instances of circular economy practices, encompassing closed-loop systems, resource recovery, and circular product design, the chapter showcases tangible manifestations of circularity in water remediation scenarios. A pivotal theme explored is the indispensable role of stakeholder engagement, collaborative frameworks, and innovative strategies in directing the transition toward circular economy paradigms. An investigation into the regulatory and policy landscape underscores the pivotal role played by regulations in advancing circular economy and sustainability applications. Within this context, diverse policy instruments, such as extended producer responsibility, eco-design regulations, and green public procurement, are evaluated for their potential to incentivize the adoption of circular economy strategies among businesses. Concluding with a clarion call for a holistic and integrated approach, this chapter underscores the imperative of embracing circular economy principles across the entire lifecycle of products, encompassing inception to end-of-life considerations. The interconnectivity between economic prosperity, environmental integrity, and societal well-being is emphasized as being central to the ethos of the circular economy and sustainability. In offering valuable insights and practical guidance, this chapter serves as an invaluable resource for both industrial stakeholders and policymakers striving to develop and execute effective circular economy and sustainability strategies in water remediation endeavors.
